Happiness does not have to cost the earth. Along for the day was Jades long time beau Bernard.The beautiful imp in the hat is Roisin, our niece.

Eoin just got a paying gig with Opera Ireland for their upcoming March performances.Jade was accepted to transition year.Brenda got 98% in her recent exams, and on top of all this I'm still on the sane side of the crazy divide!Things are goooood!!!

Last thursday was an odd one.Started off in Cahirciveen, had jobs to do in Glenbeigh and Ennis and had to make a meeting in Carlow for five pm. So, we took the Tarbert-Killimer ferry. With uncommonly good timing we arrived at the pier just as the ferry hove into view.Within ten minutes we were underway. We spent a very pleasant interlude leaning on the railing taking in the sea air and in no time ( twenty minutes total ) we were disembarking. Taking a ship to work is an experience I haven't had since I lived in Sydney, over twenty years ago now. It made for a refreshing change.

Here are some pics of our fantastic day trip round the dingle peninsula last weekend.I hadn't been there since I was a tot.The scenery really is awe inspiring.What you can't see in the first shot are the hordes of wind and kite surfers in the background.They flew like birds.I was uplifted and jealous simultaneously.We then drove up the Connor Pass (pics 2 & 3) and got caught in a traffic jam on the way down (pic 4).

Spent the afternoon in Dingle drinking guinness and scoffing hearty seafood chowder.Heavenly day.Reminded me of similar pleasant afternoons spent with absent friends.You know who you are.

Nightlife in Tralee proved surprisingly good.Mr and Mrs Deshoon danced saturday night away with gay abandon!!Sadly, all good things come to an end.We returned to real life on Monday.

Is anyone else out there amazed by the speed of the worlds descent into hell in a handbasket.How did this happen so fast? There is a long cold winter ahead, I fear. Where were the senior execs, the regulators, the central banks and the governments. What completely useless and overpaid morons.
On a lighter note I enjoyed a great game of golf on Tuesday.Taking my hard earned were Declan and Roy.Bren and I shall be heading for exotic Tralee at the weekend. By the looks of the weather it could be an indoor weekend. Not that I'm complaining. They're my favourite kind.

This noble course was negotiated with varying degrees of success by myself, Declan and Tony( a business acquaintance). A most enjoyable day, during which I played some of the best and the worst golf of my career. I cannot wait to play again. Without Tony. His incessant ramblings shall henceforth be avoided at all costs.

Prideful jubilation tinged with wistful sadness.Our firstborn has left home.Sniff.Sniff.So now we have two spare bedrooms.I have always felt that empty rooms in a home are vaguely melancholic.
Eoin started in UCD last week and wouldn't you know, he is taking to it like a duck to water.He started on a wednesday and thursday night he was at a medsoc do in beaujangles!Free wine don't you know?He has joined the rowing club(he says they pressgang anyone over 6 foot who isn't a rugger bugger).
He is staying with his Nana Christine.She is already spoiling him rotten.He plans to take pics of his dinners to tease the bedsit brigade(who subsist on noodles and toast).
What an adventure lies ahead of him.It is exceedingly strange to feel envious of your own son.Mostly,though where Eoin is concerned I am proud as punch and happy as a pig in shit.

Here are a few pix of our new deck. Myself and young master Eoin are very proud of our handiwork. Said outdoor living space has already been christened with a barbeque, at which nearly twenty members of the family were fed and watered.A sing song followed at which my mam and clare sang all night accompanied by me and my dad on guitar. Great craic!
Tonight the clan Deshoon are off to see Eoin blow his horn in the national concert hall. Porgy and Bess, no less!

We were skiing in Alpe D'Huez a week or so back. Accompanying Clan Deshoon were the O'Dowd-Hills, Mr. Jessop and Miss Byrne. Alas poor Triona, being heavily with child could not partake in the slipping,sliding and general mayhem. The slopes were excellent, the snow exquisite and we had fun, fun, fun 'till Daddy took the T- Bird away. No broken bones this year either. In point of fact, even Mammy Deshoon enjoyed it this year!Pictured are myself, Jonathan and Tim before embarking on a real Hail Mary red run with the photographer, Master Eoin. What a rush. Sorry again to all of my imaginary blog readers.My excuse is yet again an extreme case of time poverty.The house is nearly finished.We have been to ibiza for my mate Rays wedding to the lovely Audrey.Craaaaazy!The villa was sublime, the company was stimulating to say the least and yours truly got to warble at the ceremony.
Commiserations to all my pro-Scouse pals but they were pure shite up front.Condemnations to a large chunk of my fellow countrymen for the stupidity of voting the same bunch of gobshites into power again.
Ah, Leeds, Leeds, Leeds. I shall weep silent tears. Never a dull moment. ( thats not a relegation; THIS is a relegation.)

By the bye, was at a sports equipment exhibition in Germany last month. Never believed that such a large concentration of well filled lycra could exist outside of California.

Great craic was had on and off the slopes as the clans Deshoon and Hill decamped to Austria for some high altitude topples and tipples. A bump in the smooth running of this high octane adventure was provided by young master Eoin. He turned himself into a walking cliche by breaking his arm whilst snowboarding.For those who haven't skiied before- go now or go soon. many thanks to the hills for the best of company.( Seriously, watch out for the munchkins.)

Had our first trip to the magical capital of Bohemia this week.Fantastic!Great beer, fabulous architecture and amazing music. A word of warning though; czech food is best left to the czech's. Stick to one of the many good italian , french or tex-mex restaurants.We highly recommend this city.

Enjoyed the competition, pity about the Italians. Ronaldo definitely gets a lifetime achievement award from me. Things looking good for the dubs too! This could be our year.

Progress on the house - flying along at the speed of a snail on valium. On the positive front, at least our floor is poured now. Since the last post, the Young Family have embarked on a venture in Bulgarian Real Estate. Spent a week there in June. Really enjoyed it. I overlooked some rather important news in my last post. Last week our van was broken into TWICE! Yes twice! Between both robberies ALL of our power tools were taken. Most of them were Hilti's. Our overnight bags likewise. Clothes, razors(new), toiletries and, tragically, my copy of DBC Pierre's new book.

All this personal shit has a fraction of the value of the drills but is somehow more upsetting. This all happened more than a week ago but I am still ENRAGED!!! Anybody out there considering buying stolen tools-think twice.It could be you.I hope these fuckers get PILES!!

Well dear readers,I have been remiss.Weeks of info to impart, so I shall be brief. Our exchange student from France has been and gone. He had a fine old time. We brought him to the Dublin parade where we all wore funny hats and froze our nuts off.(Incidentaly, it was the first time the kids had been to the BIG PARADE!)
The great Knocknalour construction project has been frustratingly stop- start over the last while. Not out of the ground yet.My mate Declan's 40th was a quiet but enjoyable affair. (Another one grows the grey.) Attending another 40th on friday.This I suspect will be anything but. ( Quiet not enjoyable!)
What about that smart card fiasco? Nine million down the plughole and counting. It beggars belief! I can%

Astounding news!Blocks have actually been laid and all is right in the world.Couple this with the fact that I played golf today and I could almost die happy.I say almost because played today like a blind camel.
And so to gun crime.Or rather the media furore over 'gun crime'.In this little hooplah I must reluctantly absolve the politicians of all responsibility.The problem lies with the judges.Bluntly speaking they are morons.
I have personally witnessed judges handing out suspended sentences to lowlives on their twentieth offences.Need I say more.Hang 'em high.
